Slack Key ʻOhana captures family and belonging on warm album 'The 'Ohana Sessions'

Award-winning family trio Slack Key ʻOhana weave an intimate world of family, tradition, and genuine human connection on their most personal project to date, The ʻOhana Sessions.

The 11-track project is built on emotional depth as it strips back their signature island-inspired soundscape to create warm and rich collection that celebrates the spirit of Hawaiʻi and sense of belonging embedded in the meaning of the word “ohana.”

Opening with gentle swaying harmonies of “Under The Moonlight,” the album immediately sets a heartwarming familial tone which carries forward into the joyous melody of tracks like “One More Day,” and “Hawaiian Cowboy.”

Standout single “Mai Tais in Paradise,” with its beachy beats and lilting instrumentation perfectly captures the tender intimacy and easy-going sensibilities of the full project.

Whether its the slow strums of “Coming Home,” or the expansive choral stylings of “Everything is Alright,” and the upbeat notes of closer “Slack Key Ohana,” The ʻOhana Sessions is simple yet impactful as it places the spotlight on the trio of son Brian Witkin, mother Carol Witkin, and father Joe Witkin, celebrating the strong bond that’s given life to their music.

Speaking of the project, Brian Witkin says, “There’s a unique energy when it’s just the three of us. This album is the first time we’ve made a full studio record centered entirely on the trio, and that was very intentional. It brings out a different emotional depth in both the performances and the songs themselves.”

An intimate production that peels back the layers on the acclaimed island music group’s intricate artistry to travel straight to their roots, The ʻOhana Sessions is the kind of album that beckons us to hit replay, the personal yet resonant energy wrapping warmly around us.

Having debuted at #1 on the iTunes World Music Albums Chart, the album continues to add to a growing list of musical accolades as the hit trio cement a space for themselves rooted in Hawaiian musical traditions, live musicianship, and family.
