Indie-pop artist Matteson Gregory dives into the unexplored parts of early adulthood on her latest ’90s-inspired pop-rock EP You Can Call Me Mattie: Season One, a four-track collection built on reflection and resilience.
From the compelling notes of cinematic opener “Drive” which weaves a vivid tale of love and connection to the anthemic yet emotive undertones of “Old Happy,” the EP is as hopeful as it vulnerable, drawing us into a world laden with equal amounts of charm and cartharsis.
Across each track, Gregory’s restrained vocal style over soaring instrumentals creates a vibrant yet grounding musical experience steeped in the relatable lows and highs of growing up.
Speaking of the EP, she says, “I hope people will take away that they aren’t behind, they’re just in season one. That it’s okay to not have everything figured out. It’s okay to fail. It’s okay to fall in love. It’s okay to start over. I want people to embrace the messy parts of life. I want to inspire people to not be afraid to live the life they truly want.”
Weaving poetic lyrics and luscious pop sentiments together, the EP taps into quiet honesty with confidence, leaving us empowered in pursuit of self-growth.
With Season One unfold as a realistic yet uplifting exploration of ambition, relationships, expectations and authenticity, Matteson Gregory carves out a space for herself as a force to be reckoned with.
