West Coast Canadian alternative duo SIXPOINTS have unveiled “For Black Star,” a reflective new single inspired by David Bowie’s enduring artistic legacy.
Drawing influence from Bowie’s final album Blackstar, particularly the song “Lazarus,” the track explores the intersection of the physical, the spiritual and the quiet mysteries of everyday life.
Written during the recording sessions for the duo’s debut album Negative Space at Monarch Studios in Vancouver, “For Black Star” almost took a different path. After several takes, the band shelved the song to rework it before returning for one final recording on the last day of the sessions.
By stripping back the guitar work and simplifying the lyrics, SIXPOINTS discovered the version that ultimately made the album and helped shape the direction of future material.
The duo says the song embraces restraint over excess, allowing sparse melodies and carefully layered textures to create an immersive listening experience.
“We hope people take away that simple melodic lines can be effective and create an altered state,” SIXPOINTS shared. “We like to pare sound textures down for full meditative effect. The lyrics imply that our burdens are never too great and that our lives are a mystery to be embraced.”
Comprising composer and producer Shaun Day Woods alongside poet and bassist Jimy Dawn, SIXPOINTS continue to blur the boundaries between alternative, post-industrial goth and experimental rock.
The creative momentum behind “For Black Star” has already inspired a new body of work, with the duo planning to return to the studio in early 2027. Listen to the latest track below:
