After years of defining the emotional pulse of Bollywood soundtracks, Arijit Singh has taken a decisive turn. The singer unveiled “Raina“, his first independent single, marking a new creative chapter following his recent decision to step away from new playback singing assignments.
Released on February 27 via the Garuudaa Music YouTube channel, “Raina” pairs Singh’s unmistakable voice with a sweeping composition by Shekhar Ravjiani and lyrics by Priya Saraiya. The track is a slow-burning romantic ballad that leans fully into Singh’s gift for intimate, emotionally rich storytelling.
Announcing the track on social media, Singh and Ravjiani invited listeners to “turn it up, feel it deeply, and let the night take over.” Lyrically, “Raina” paints the portrait of a woman who embodies the night itself—mysterious, endless and quietly intoxicating. It feels like a fitting description for a song that unfolds like a quiet confession after midnight.
For fans, the release feels both familiar and refreshingly new. Arijit Singh’s voice still carries the ache and warmth that made him one of the most beloved playback singers of the past decade. Yet the song’s lush arrangement signals something different: an artist reclaiming his creative space outside the machinery of film soundtracks.
The shift arrives just weeks after Singh announced on Instagram that he would no longer accept new playback assignments. While the move surprised many, the singer later clarified that several previously recorded songs remain in the pipeline and will continue releasing over the next couple of years. His voice will still appear in cinema projects, including upcoming tracks tied to the film Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi.
But “Raina” makes one thing clear: Singh isn’t stepping away from music; he’s simply rewriting the rules. With independent releases now at the forefront, the singer seems poised to explore a more personal, less mediated soundscape.
