The introduction of vintage red buses in Chennai has added a sprinkle of nostalgia steeped in culture for locals and tourists alike.
The Chennai Ula Hop-On, Hope-Off vintage-styled buses, launched by MTC, offers a new and unique way of affordable, full-day sightseeing for just ₹50 across the city spanning major landmarks like Marina Beach, San Thome, and the Government Museum – with buses running every 30 minutes on weekends.
Tapping into the nostalgic stories that unravel as we travel through Chennai in these buses, the photography community Madras Photo Bloggers and heritage-led organisation Nam Veedu Nam Ooru Nam Kadhai are bringing the Vintage Bus Photo Tour in collaboration with MTC Chennai .
Happening on Sunday, February 22, 10 AM to 12 Noon, the photography experience will lead us on a moving visual journey through the city. Offering us more than an opportunity to take aesthetic photographs, the tour allows passengers to immerse themselves in the experience of travel and culture that passes them by.
As the bus rolls through the streets of Chennai participants will be able to explore framing life through bus windows, capturing layered street moments. playing with motion and light, candid storytelling, human emotions and everyday life scattered through the city.
The experience will be guided by two passionate visual storytellers and experts – travel photographer Srivatsan Sankaran and heritage enthusiast Prasanna S who will help you turn ordinary streets into memorable visual stories. Aside from being an engaging experience, the photo tour will come with practical tips, creative challenges, and real-time guidance.
From cozy bus interiors to the chaos, charm and comfort of Chennai, the tour is set to be a blend of heritage, travel, storytelling and visual expression all rolled into the nostalgia that the Chennai Ula bus rides evoke.
