A24 has unveiled the official trailer for The Drama, a sharp, unsettling comedy that places Zendaya and Robert Pattinson at the center of a wedding week spiraling into chaos.
Directed by Dream Scenario filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli, the film hits theaters on April 3, 2026, and the newly released trailer makes one thing clear: this is no ordinary love story.
Zendaya stars as Emma Harwood, a Louisiana-born bookstore employee with a Boston University English degree, while Pattinson plays Charlie Thompson, a British museum director with a doctorate in art history who oversees the Cambridge Art Museum.
On paper, they look perfect. Days before their wedding, everything collapses when Emma’s long-buried secret surfaces — one that threatens not just the ceremony, but the foundation of their relationship.
Borgli leans hard into discomfort and irony, crafting a narrative that blends romantic aesthetics with psychological unease. The trailer moves swiftly from soft-focus wedding bliss to tension-soaked confrontations, hinting at emotional wreckage beneath tailored suits and bridal glamour. True to A24’s style, The Drama thrives in ambiguity, letting silence, awkward pauses and sharp dialogue do the heavy lifting.
The film also stars Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim and Hailey Gates, with Succession alum Zoë Winters appearing as the wedding photographer—an observer quietly witnessing the unraveling. Production took place across Massachusetts, including Boston’s Newbury Street and the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, alongside shoots in New York City and Los Angeles.
As part of its inventive marketing, A24 previously placed a fictional engagement announcement for Emma and Charlie in The Boston Globe, adding a meta layer to the film’s themes of image versus truth. The studio recently followed up with a wedding-invite-style poster, splitting top billing evenly between Zendaya and Pattinson.
The Drama also marks the first of three upcoming collaborations between Zendaya and Pattinson. The duo will reunite in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey this July, followed by Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three later this year.
