Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo join the voice cast of Shrek 5

DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 5 has expanded its cast, with Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo officially joining the long-running franchise as Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle.

The announcement arrived on Thanksgiving morning, when the film’s official Instagram account shared a behind-the-scenes look at the actors getting into character.

Hernández, best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, leaned all the way in, posting photos in green body paint as he prepared for his ogre role. “I might have gone a bit overboard,” he joked on social media.

Gisondo, who recently appeared as Jimmy Olsen in James Gunn’s Superman, shared a more low-key selfie wearing a Shrek hat, teasing his co-star: “Buddy these look amazing but you know we’re just doing the voices right?” The exchange ended with a shot of a stunned, fully green Hernández.

The pair joins returning franchise leads Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, along with newcomer Zendaya, who voices Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia. Universal has set the film for a June 30, 2027 theatrical release.

Shrek 5 is directed by Conrad Vernon, Walt Dohrn, and Minions: The Rise of Gru co-director Brad Ableson, with Gina Shay and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri producing. The film marks the latest chapter in a nearly 25-year franchise that has generated close to $3 billion worldwide and earned an Oscar for its 2001 debut.
