New York artist Cleo Reed creates a delicate yet powerful space on new track “Always The Horse, Never The Jockey."

New York-based multi-disciplinary artist Cleo Reed creates a delicate yet powerful space on new track “Always The Horse, Never The Jockey.” Embracing Black Southern folk styling laden with gentle acoustic guitar alongside symbolic lyricism, the track is powerful and reflective of the dysfunction of the world.

Speaking of the track, Reed says “I woke up in spite of fear / I didn’t ask to be here.It is a harrowing realization to notice and understand that the systems seen in the United States are intentionally designed to fail us. Each day, I’ve seen who chooses to ride right past the dysfunction in search of industry. I can’t help but admit that I feel more in relation to the horse itself than the jockey.”

A follow up to Reed’s first single of 2024, “Women At War,” a stirring folk protest song for a generation as the US faces the harshest restrictions on women’s bodies in decades, this latest track further hones in on Reed’s intentful musicality as she establishes herself as a young, visionary artist who leads with unwavering commitment to empower others.
