Seattle-based indie rock band BRYTWD makes its public debut with “Choose Love”, a six-minute single that pushes back against the brevity of today’s streaming landscape.
Blending psychedelic rock with gospel harmonies, the track unfolds through shifting rhythms and vibrant arrangements rather than chasing a radio-ready structure.
Written in the shadow of heartbreak and political division, “Choose Love” argues that joy is not the absence of hardship but a response to it. The song embraces life’s contradictions, suggesting that love and loss give one another meaning.
sThe lyric, “Celebrate the broken heart, ’cause it means that you just felt love,” serves as its emotional centrepiece and becomes the record’s guiding principle.
BRYTWD carries that philosophy into the recording itself.
Tracked live as a full band without sequencers or click tracks, the single lets its tempos breathe and its time signatures shift naturally, preserving the spontaneity of musicians performing together in the room. Psychedelic textures, gospel vocals and organic instrumentation combine to create a sound that favours movement over polish.
“Resist is a verb; choose love when you’re told to choose hate, because joy is an act of resistance,” the band said of the release.
The release also marks a significant milestone for BRYTWD. After years of writing music privately, “Choose Love” introduces songwriter Bryan Costanich’s first public project, expanding what began as a solo endeavour into a six-piece collaboration. It features the Gartrell Gospelizo Girls, bassist Julie Slick, guitarist Keith Wayne and drummer Cameron Boher.
For a debut, “Choose Love” is a confident first impression, allowing BRYTWD’s songwriting and performances to unfold at their own pace.
