Indian independent pop artist SSTG has unveiled the official music video for his single “Why did you?”, adding a visual dimension to the emotionally reflective track that first arrived earlier this month.
The monochromatic video marks the singer-songwriter’s first official music video and translates the song’s themes of longing, expectation and unanswered feelings into a simple narrative centred on a budding romance.
Featuring SSTG alongside a cast of performers, the video follows the excitement of new love as a connection grows through everyday interactions before imagined futures give way to emotional uncertainty. Choreographed sequences mirror the song’s laid-back pop groove, while the restrained black-and-white aesthetic keeps the focus on the vulnerability at its core.
Written by SSTG, whose real name is Shreshth Singh, “Why did you?” draws from personal experience while exploring a familiar emotional cycle.
Beginning with casual conversations and messages, the song captures how expectations can quietly build before disappointment leads to questions about another person’s intentions. Despite its heartbreak-driven subject, the track balances introspective lyrics with an easy-going, melodic pop sound.
Reflecting on the video’s release, SSTG said:
“I felt I needed to show myself instead of just releasing audio, so this became the first music video I filmed during the last month of my college life. After a lot of delays and balancing work with music, the project is finally complete and ready for release.”
The release also represents a milestone for the India-based artist, who has continued developing his music alongside full-time work after beginning his songwriting journey in 2017.
With “Why did you?”, SSTG pairs relatable storytelling with understated visuals that reinforce the emotional tension between hope and reality without losing the song’s relaxed pop sensibility.
