Fior returns with “Listen (Aquarius Moon Mix),” a politically charged electronic rock single that confronts the moral authority of institutions while urging listeners to trust their own sense of empathy.
Arriving ahead of his fourth studio album, Songs from the Graveyard, due October 9, the release continues the artist’s shift toward darker, electronically driven songwriting.
Originally written in 2015 during the rise of Donald Trump, “Listen” reflects on hypocrisy within organised religion and government, drawing from Fior’s personal experiences and disillusionment with systems that claim moral authority.
Instead, the song argues for an inner ethical compass, using nature as a recurring metaphor for compassion and human instinct. Its blend of electronic production, alternative rock textures, industrial edge and dark synth-wave reinforces that tension, allowing the message to emerge through atmosphere as much as lyrics.
The track was co-produced with Los Angeles underground queer duo TilDusk, with guitar contributions from Corky James and mixing and mastering by Grammy-nominated engineer Rob Kleiner. Rather than overwhelming its political themes, the production keeps the focus on emotional tension, pairing driving rhythms with a brooding cinematic edge.
“My biggest hope for this song is that it will speak to those who have been marginalized and abused by institutions such as the Church and the Government,” Fior said. “If even one person out there feels seen, heard, and energized by this song, it has served its purpose.”
As the latest preview of Songs from the Graveyard, “Listen (Aquarius Moon Mix)” suggests Fior is less interested in offering easy answers than in challenging the systems that shape them, delivering a protest song that finds its weight in conviction rather than volume.
