Nashville-based guitarist and vocalist McMillin encapsulates tension of wanting to feel deeply and the instinct of shutting down on resonant and vulnerable single “FEEL.”
Led by sharp and refreshing honesty, the track opens with tinges of nostalgia before building into a polished pop-tinged production. Rooted in smooth synths and catchy drums, the sonics mirror the emotional push and pull at the centre of the track. With emotive vocals and thoughtful songwriting, the track strikes a chord with anyone struggling with uncertainties in life.
Speaking of the track, McMillin shares “This song was written in the midst of great uncertainty in my life. The shows I was playing in Nashville were in short supply and my bills kept piling higher. Couple that with a divided nation in rapid decline and you get a lot of contemplation and sad walks around the neighborhood. One day I found an old song demo about my life changing at age 18 that I never released. The hook wasn’t strong so I found the instrumental and sang ‘I just don’t know how to feel’ over it almost instinctually.”
Simple yet impactful, the track is underpinned by weighty but intentional writing and a confident performance style. Laden with heavy, deliberate guitars and clear vocals, McMillin’s brings a modern rock grit with lush pop stylings to offer up a listening experience that feels urgent and lived-in all at once.
Having built his reputation with residencies across the country, McMillin continues to establish a musical presence that feels raw, real and relatable with every note.
