Emma Roberts is set to dive into the shadows once again with the upcoming horror film A Body in the Woods, produced by Dave Caplan, known for Longlegs and The Monkey.
The film marks the debut project for new U.S. sales company Manifest Pictures, founded by former Miramax and WME Independent executives Yvette Zhuang and Zach Glueck, which is launching pre-sales at this week’s European Film Market in Berlin.
Roberts, celebrated for American Horror Story and Scream 4, will play Alice Lincoln, a woman living at the turn of the century deep in the Marshall Woods. Tasked with keeping vigil over the body of an unidentified mine worker in her remote cabin, Alice encounters eerie disturbances that make her question whether the corpse is truly at rest. Her ordeal intensifies with the sudden appearance of a silent woman at the edge of the forest, thrusting Alice into a waking nightmare where unseen forces threaten both her sanity and her life.

The film is written and directed by Stephen Cognetti, creator of the Hell House franchise, and production is scheduled to begin this September. Caplan, financing the project through C2 Motion Picture Group, said, “Stephen has consistently proven he can create terrifying, elevated immersive horror experiences. With Emma in the lead, A Body in the Woods is an undeniable package.”
Cognetti added, “Emma brings an intelligence and emotional fearlessness that elevates everything she touches. My goal is to deliver an elevated horror film that tests the limits of fear—not just for Alice, but for the audience sitting in the dark with her. I want people to leave the theater unsettled, questioning what they saw, and feeling like they survived something.”
Manifest Pictures echoed their excitement, stating, “We’re honored to be working with a producer of Dave Caplan’s pedigree and a director with a consistent track record of terrifying audiences worldwide.”
With Emma Roberts at the center and a seasoned horror team behind the camera, A Body in the Woods promises to be a chilling journey that horror fans.
