Bobby Moresco to Direct Giorgio Armani Biopic

Oscar-winning filmmaker Bobby Moresco is set to direct a biopic chronicling the life and legacy of the late Giorgio Armani, Deadline reports. This marks the first major screen project to take shape following the designer’s death last September at the age of 91.

Titled Armani: The King of Fashion, the film is being produced by Andrea Iervolino, whose recent slate has leaned heavily into prestige biographical storytelling. Moresco, best known for Crash, will also co-write the screenplay with his daughter, Amanda Moresco, continuing a creative partnership that builds on his earlier collaborations with Iervolino on Lamborghini and Maserati.

The project is positioned as a sweeping portrait of Armani’s personal and professional evolution, tracing his rise from Milan’s fashion houses to becoming one of the most influential designers of the modern era.

Armani’s cultural footprint extended well beyond the runway, and the film is expected to reflect that intersection between fashion and cinema. His relationship with Hollywood reshaped red carpet style and screen masculinity, beginning with Richard Gere’s wardrobe in American Gigolo and continuing across dozens of films.

Over the decades, Armani became a fixture at the Oscars and Cannes, dressing figures such as Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts, Jessica Chastain, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Sophia Loren, effectively turning fashion into a narrative tool within popular culture.

Despite its deeply Italian subject, the biopic may not be filmed in Italy. Iervolino has indicated that production is likely to move to Hungary, citing financial and administrative uncertainty tied to recent changes in Italy’s production environment. While stressing his personal attachment to Italy and its creative heritage, the producer has acknowledged that international financing realities are increasingly shaping where European-set stories are physically made.

Whether the film will explore Armani’s famously private personal life or remain focused on his professional ascent remains unclear, as does the level of involvement from the Armani family. What is certain is that the project arrives at a moment of reflection for fashion and film alike, revisiting how one designer quietly redefined power, elegance, and image across both industries.
