Popular Indian singer Arijit Singh has announced he is “calling off” his playback singing career.
On Tuesday, January 27, Singh took to his social media to announce that he will not take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on.
The singer, who has touched hearts with soulful voice in songs like “Tum Hi Ho,” from Aashiqui 2, “Channa Mereya” from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, “Agar Tum Saath Ho,” from Tamasha and more has establishing himself as a leading voice not just in Indian music but on a global level.
Now, marking a significant change his professional journey as he steps back from playback, Singh expressed his gratitude towards fans for their support and loyalty.
His statement on Instagram read : “Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey. God has been really kind to me. I am fan of good music and in future will be learning more and do more on my own as a small little artist. Thanks again for all your support. I still have to finish some pending commitments , will finish them. So you might get some releases this year. Just to be clear that I won’t stop making music.”
He confirmed that he will still be honouring his existing commitments, signalling at more music to come. He also clarified that despite stepping back from playback projects, he will still continue making music independently.
The news has shocked fans as they fondly reminisced about his achievements and his impact on Indian music, as they await what’s to come from the iconic talent.
Though Arijit Singh’s musical career will continue, his retirement from playback singing truly marks the end of an era.
