A snippet of an old airline ad became the viral BGM of the summer as people began using the ad jingle from a 2022 ad from British airline as a ironic symbol for escapism during an anxious year.
Spawning several reels backed by the upbeat audio of the phrase “Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday,” this viral meme was the perfect representation of lightheartedness when things don’t work out!
Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce engagement
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Taylor Swift posted and it broke the Internet.
Swift’s engagement with Travis Kelce is by far the most talked about celebrity engagement this year with Swifties taking over social media with theories, emotions and celebration of the much-anticipated news.
Labubu craze
Labubus were all the rage in 2025 with pretty much every celebrity from BlackPink‘s Lisa to Rihanna carrying around one of these furry elf-like dolls this year.
Created by Hong Kong-based artist Kasing Lung, the rise of Labubus began in 2024 but this year saw them become of e one of the most significant pop-culture items, selling out across the globe for obscene prices.
‘Phan’ confirmation
YouTubers and Internet celebrities Daniel Howell and Philip Lester confirmed that they’ve been in a relationship for the past 16 years, and every Tumblr-era pop culture lover had a meltdown.
Confirmation of the pair’s relationship – after over a decade of fan theories – was not only a nostalgia trip for fans who’ve been with the duo since the beginning of their online career in 2009, but also brought in several new fans too.
Book-to-screen
A win for bookworms and movie lovers alike! From The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Housemaid to most recently Heated Rivalry, book-to-screen adaptations won hearts this year. Seeing beloved characters brought to life really hit the spot with discourses around these shows and characters taking over the Internet.
