Jamie Alimorad skewers Christmas cheer with debut holiday single “Santa Sucks”

Jamie Alimorad has entered the holiday music conversation, and he’s doing it sideways. The award-winning singer-songwriter released his first-ever Christmas single, “Santa Sucks,” a pop-rock track that trades glossy sentimentality for humor, nostalgia, and a sharply relatable sense of disappointment.

Rather than another seasonal ballad about perfect mornings, holiday magic, and mistletoe romance, Alimorad centers the song on a child who does everything right, lands on the Nice List, and still wakes up empty-handed.

The release arrives during a banner stretch for the New York–raised artist. In 2025 alone, Jamie Alimorad made his Carnegie Hall debut, topped Amazon’s Movers & Shakers chart with “Fade Into You,” earned multiple international awards, and secured new nominations across rock and pop categories. “Santa Sucks” marks a tonal pivot, but not a careless one — it’s an intentional move from an artist confident enough to undercut the holiday formula without losing its emotional core.

Built around bright guitars and a driving pop-rock arrangement, the song leans into theatrical storytelling rather than cynicism. Alimorad’s vocal performance balances playful frustration with warmth, turning the song into less of a rant and more of a communal inside joke.

That sense of shared experience becomes literal in the chorus, which features more than 50 voices from Alimorad’s family, friends, and music students, many recorded remotely. Several children — his own students — deliver spoken lines throughout the track, giving it the loose, lived-in feel of a family gathering rather than a studio-polished novelty.

Jordan Sherman co-wrote and performed across the track while sharing production duties, with David Daniel Díaz handling additional production, Sherman and Brandon Buttner shaping the mix, and Makoa Johnson mastering the final cut. The resulting sound is intentionally crowded — layering sleigh bells, piano flourishes, and subtle nods to classic Christmas melodies in a maximalist arrangement that mirrors the festive chaos the song gleefully skewers.

“Santa Sucks” doesn’t reject Christmas so much as it reframes it, leaning into humor as a way of processing nostalgia, expectation, and the moments that don’t quite land the way we hoped. For an artist best known for earnest ballads and chart-climbing singles, Alimorad’s holiday debut feels less like a detour and more like a well-earned exhale.
