Olivia Dean secures partial refunds as Ticketmaster responds to resale backlash

Olivia Dean Secures Refunds for Fans After Calling Out Ticket Resale Prices

Olivia Dean has secured partial refunds for fans after publicly pressing Ticketmaster and AXS to address soaring resale prices for her upcoming North American tour. This is a rare concession from two of the industry’s largest ticketing platforms and a story that has quickly become a flashpoint in the wider debate over secondary marketplaces.

The breakthrough arrived Wednesday, days after the British singer-songwriter condemned the companies for allowing tickets to be relisted at more than 14 times their original value, in some cases topping $1,000. In a pointed open letter, Dean labelled the unchecked resale ecosystem “disgusting,” “vile,” and “exploitative,” urging the major players to take responsibility for protecting fans.

Ticketmaster responded with a notable policy shift, pledging to cap resale rates at face value for her tour and begin issuing refunds to fans who overpaid on its platform. “We support artists’ ability to set the terms of how their tickets are sold and resold,” the company said, later adding that it hoped other marketplaces would follow suit.

Live Nation Entertainment CEO Michael Rapino echoed the sentiment, saying the company shares Dean’s push for affordability , although he acknowledged they cannot compel competitors to honor artists’ resale rules. Olivia Dean welcomed the refunds but emphasized the issue extends far beyond her shows, calling for an industry-wide mandate requiring platforms to cap resale prices whenever artists request it.

Her comments land amid heightened political scrutiny of ticketing practices. In the UK, lawmakers recently confirmed plans to outlaw resale above face value following campaigns led by artists including Coldplay and Dua Lipa. For Olivia Dean, who has rapidly emerged as one of 2025’s biggest breakout acts, this move represents a rare moment of institutional accountability. “It’s not every day you feel heard,” she wrote. “Today is a good day.”
