The breakthrough arrived Wednesday, days after the British singer-songwriter condemned the companies for allowing tickets to be relisted at more than 14 times their original value, in some cases topping $1,000. In a pointed open letter, Dean labelled the unchecked resale ecosystem “disgusting,” “vile,” and “exploitative,” urging the major players to take responsibility for protecting fans.
Ticketmaster responded with a notable policy shift, pledging to cap resale rates at face value for her tour and begin issuing refunds to fans who overpaid on its platform. “We support artists’ ability to set the terms of how their tickets are sold and resold,” the company said, later adding that it hoped other marketplaces would follow suit.
Live Nation Entertainment CEO Michael Rapino echoed the sentiment, saying the company shares Dean’s push for affordability , although he acknowledged they cannot compel competitors to honor artists’ resale rules.
