Pankaj Tripathi steps behind the camera for the first time as he joins a growing wave of Indian creators testing YouTube’s pay-per-episode structured model. The Mirzapur-acclaimed actor makes his producing debut with “Perfect Family,” an eight-episode dramedy set to premiere November 27 on the JAR Series YouTube channel.
The project, reported via Variety, positions itself as one of India’s earliest attempts at long-form, premium series distribution through YouTube’s paid content system. The model, still relatively untested in the Indian market, offers the first two episodes for free while remaining episodes unlock via a one-time payment of INR 59 (approximately USD 0.65) each. Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par previously explored a similar approach, releasing directly on YouTube after its theatrical window.
“Perfect Family” comes from JAR Series Production, with Ajay Rai of JAR Pictures and Mohit Chabbra producing and Sachin Pathak directing from creator Palak Bhambri’s concept. Tripathi said the decision to debut his first project as producer through YouTube was intentional, calling it a platform where audiences “discover stories directly” and where premium long-format content is beginning to find real footing.
The series tracks the Karkaria family in the aftermath of a school incident that leaves young Daani Karkaria grappling with an anxiety attack — an episode that pushes the entire household into therapy. What starts as a protective intervention quickly unravels into a candid examination of generational patterns, emotional blind spots, and the family’s struggle to reset long-standing dynamics. The ensemble cast includes Gulshan Devaiah, Neha Dhupia, Seema Pahwa, Manoj Pahwa, Giraja Oak Godbole, Kaveri Seth and Hirva Trivedi.

Tripathi described the series as “incredibly close to my heart,” noting that its blend of empathy, humor and family dynamics shaped his decision to launch his producing career with it. Rai further added that the YouTube pay model “unlocks an entirely new frontier for Indian creators,” arguing that alternative distribution could give mid-scale projects broader reach and more control.
Each episode runs roughly 35–40 minutes, adopting a full-length, TV-style format that’s uncommon for Indian YouTube originals in India. With its hybrid release strategy, “Perfect Family” will be among the first tests of whether audiences are willing to pay for serialized, premium storytelling content directly on the country’s biggest free-to-use platform.
