New Music Friday: Reneé Rapp, Jessie J, Inhaler and Ken Carson

New Music Friday just dropped a fresh lineup, and it’s stacked with magic, emotion, and chaos. From Reneé Rapp’s cinematic sleight of hand on “Lucky” to Jessie J’s soul-baring “H.A.P.P.Y,” the week belongs to artists who know how to make a statement.

Inhaler return with a hauntingly hopeful “Hole In The Ground,” while Ken Carson soundtracks Halloween with a distortion-fueled storm called “Yes.” Whether you’re chasing chills, catharsis, or something to scream-sing on your commute, this week’s NMF has you covered.

Reneé Rapp — “Lucky”

Reneé Rapp is spinning fate into her own illusion with “Lucky,” her shimmering new single off the Now You See Me, Now You Don’t soundtrack. True to the upcoming film’s sleight-of-hand spirit, Rapp pulls off a sonic magic trick—part swagger, part surrender—as she sings, “I go fast, baby, I go hard… I find it kinda funny, I get so la-la-lucky.”

The track will soundtrack the end credits of the upcoming third Now You See Me franchise film, hitting theaters November 14, and it feels every bit as cinematic as that moment deserves. Fresh off her August album Bite Me, Reneé Rapp sounds in full control here, playful yet self-aware, disappearing and reappearing like the musical magician she’s always been.

Jessie J — “H.A.P.P.Y”

Jessie J is back with a radiant new anthem, “H.A.P.P.Y,” the third single from her upcoming sixth studio album Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time (out November 28). Dropping just in time for Halloween, the track trades tricks for truth as Jessie J reflects on finding light through pain and gratitude through recovery.

After opening this album era with “No Secrets” and “Living My Best Life,” “H.A.P.P.Y” feels like her most personal release yet—an emotional checkpoint for an artist who’s learned to sing through storms. Despite recent health battles and tour delays, Jessie’s spirit is unshakable here, her voice soaring with that unmistakable mix of power and heart.

Inhaler — “Hole In The Ground”

Inhaler are digging deep with “Hole In The Ground,” their first new release since dropping Open Wide earlier this year. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios with Grammy-winning producer Kid Harpoon, the track feels like a cinematic return to form: melancholic, soaring, and unmistakably Inhaler.

Premiered live at their Liverpool Arena show last week, the single carries that signature mix of indie-rock ache and 80s nostalgia, echoing influences from The Smiths to The Pixies. Frontman Eli Hewson describes it as “something fragile growing amongst a wreckage,” and that imagery fits—“Hole In The Ground” hums with a quiet, searching kind of hope. Currently on their Open Wide world tour, the Dublin band shows no signs of slowing down, closing out 2025 with a hometown New Year’s Eve show at Dublin Castle.

Ken Carson — “Yes”

Ken Carson keeps his Halloween streak alive with “Yes,” a blood-pumping new release that hits like a sonic exorcism. Dropped today (Oct. 31), the Clif Shyne–produced track dives headfirst into Carson’s chaotic, post-apocalyptic world—distorted, unfiltered, and drenched in rage. Fans had been buzzing for weeks over leaked snippets, and the final cut doesn’t disappoint, layering eerie synths and gut-punching bass under Carson’s restless confessions: “How you say yeah on the face / How the f** I grow apart from you?”

The single extends his spooky-season legacy following X (XTENDED) and A Great Chaos, cementing Halloween as his personal holiday. Currently tearing up stages on Playboi Carti’s Antagonist 2.0 tour, Carson proves once again that his chaos isn’t just heard—it’s felt.
