Netflix has officially unveiled the first look on The Ba***ds of Bollywood, the hotly anticipated directorial debut of Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The satirical dramedy series, positioned as both a playful “toast and roast” of the Hindi film industry, premieres globally on September 18, 2025.

Co-created by Aryan Khan alongside Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, the series explores “how far you’ll go for your dreams — and if you can outwit a few Bollywood baddies along the way.” Produced under Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment banner, the project continues the company’s growing slate of Netflix collaborations, which includes Bard of Blood, Darlings, Bhakshak, Betaal, and Class of ’83.

Inside the World of ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood

The teaser introduces viewers to Aasmaan Singh (played by Lakshya Lalwani), an ambitious outsider navigating Bollywood’s glittering yet chaotic inner circle, alongside a swirl of eccentric friends, rivals and mentors. The ensemble cast includes Bobby Deol, Lakshya Lalwani, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Vijayant Kohli, Rajat Bedi, and Gautami Kapoor.

But it’s the cameos that have already set the internet abuzz. Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Karan Johar all make appearances, as does Shah Rukh Khan himself, in a rare father-son crossover on screen. Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan also feature, while industry chatter suggests more surprise appearances, with Ranbir Kapoor’s name already in circulation.

Among the standout moments is a one sequence, already a talking point online, that shows Aasmaan behind bars, as a police officer remarks that “people often become more famous after going to jail.” The line cuts directly to Aryan Khan’s directorial credit — a stylistic flourish widely praised by fans for its tongue-in-cheek wit, and called the choice bold and self-aware.

Launch and Reactions

Speaking about his debut at the Mumbai preview event on August 20, Aryan Khan acknowledged his nerves but outlined his vision: “With The Ba*ds of Bollywood, I wanted to build a world that feels alive, a mix of glitz and grit, where ambition shines, egos clash, and nothing is ever as it seems.” He further added: “In Netflix, we found a partner who shared our creative vision — helping us tell the story exactly how it needed to be told, raw, stylized, and something the world has never experienced before.”

Shah Rukh Khan, who very gladly hosted the Mumbai preview event for his son, praised the project, calling it “storytelling that’s sharp, self-aware, and unapologetically bold,” while Netflix India’s Vice-President of Content Monika Shergill described the forthcoming series as “witty, bold, and unlike anything audiences have seen before — a true roast-and-toast to Bollywood.”

Soundtrack and Scale

The soundtrack, to be released by T-series, is led by composer Shashwat Sachdev, with contributions from Anirudh Ravichander and Ujwal Gupta, adding to the show’s mix of established and fresh creative voices.

The unveiling of The Ba***ds of Bollywood also comes as Netflix deepens its footprint in Asia. Beyond India, the streamer recently reported a $200 million investment in Thai content since 2021, underscoring its push to develop ambitious regional originals with global reach.

For Aryan Khan, however, the spotlight this September is squarely on his debut series — a stylized, satirical, and star-packed look at Bollywood’s inner workings.

The stage is set, the stars are lined up, and Aryan Khan’s vision is ready to take over your screens. Catch The Ba*ds of Bollywood on Netflix this September 18.
