CM Talkington unveils haunting single “Space Invaders” inspired by survival and healing

Cult filmmaker-turned-songwriter CM Talkington returns with “Space Invaders,” a raw and cinematic new single released today, marking another deeply personal chapter in his evolving music career.

Best known for directing the cult classic Love & A .45, Talkington now leans fully into songwriting as a vehicle for reflection, survival and spiritual reckoning.

Co-written and recorded with Cisco De Luna, the track draws from six years of self-documented recovery following Talkington’s stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis.

Built around documentary footage captured during that period, the accompanying video transforms lived experience into something closer to visual testimony: intimate, unpolished and quietly defiant.

Musically, “Space Invaders” unfolds like a slow-burning transmission, blending grit and atmosphere while allowing Talkington’s weathered voice to carry the emotional weight.

The result moves beyond the boundaries of a conventional, radio-ready single, and more like a personal dispatch from the edge of survival that’s stark, reflective and unexpectedly spiritual.

Talkington describes the song as a call to protect the “Sacred Garden,” a metaphor for life, creativity, and healing in the face of forces intent on destroying it. That tension between vulnerability and resistance has defined his recent work, following the critically noted albums Not Exactly Nashville (2020) and Texas Radio (2023).

With “Space Invaders,” Talkington continues to blur the line between cinema and songwriting, turning recovery into narrative and music into memory.
